As Adams Motorsport Marketing is a member of the MIA (Motorsport Industry Association) we were very kindly hosted by the Speedworks Corolla Racing Team just before the weekend’s racing at Donington. Speedworks Corolla provided all the hospitality, with Amy and Christian on hand, and hosted both Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA, and Alan Gow, Head of the BTCC.
As an ex-racer himself, Chris was able to ask Alan some very searching questions on a number of important topics within motorsport, and particularly within the BTCC. Alan explained in detail how the BTCC is becoming increasingly successful as a championship series in the UK, with growing popularity across television, social media channels, and attendance at UK circuits. The relationship between the BTCC and ITV4 has lasted 27 years and remains the backbone of BTCC viewing figures. However, pay-per-view and YouTube also play a very significant part in the overall popularity of the series with both the public and sponsors alike.
The audience also heard from Alan Gow about how the championship is now supporting sustainable fuels as the energy source for the BTCC. Having ventured into hybrid solutions in the past, the BTCC is now fully behind sustainable fuels as the way forward, at least for the time being. As Alan pointed out, there is Formula E for electric racing, but that is not the direction he sees for the BTCC. Who is to argue with the success of the series under Alan’s leadership over the last couple of decades? He has presided over some great decisions for the championship and built an amazing racing series, backed by the paying public motorsport fans, manufacturers, and sponsors.
Thanks to Speedworks Corolla for their excellent hospitality and for the insightful garage visit to this top racing team.
